From 31 Jan, 2026: find joy in the little things
What I said, more or less: I ran across this proverb recently, “If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy but the same amount of snow.” It’s easy to find joy in the fluffy flakes falling down but less easy a week in, contending with grey chunky piles of ice on the sidewalks. The yoga sutras tell us “pratipaksha bhavanam*” or, “when harrassed by negative thoughts, cultivate the opposite.” Notice the bright sun and crisp air. Take joy where you can.
*Sutra 2.33, vitarka-bādhane pratipakṣa-bhāvanam

He was watching me watch him, and fluffing his feathers, so I hope he was ok!
